Aggregations

While data imported into TIBCO Spotfire is in a certain format, the data can be dynamically aggregated in the visualizations after the data has been imported. Aggregating data is a way to group the data using statistical measures.

Overview

The data imported into TIBCO Spotfire might not always be in the format needed for different parts of the analysis. While it is possible to transform the data before it is loaded, it might not be necessary to do so. TIBCO Spotfire allows users to dynamically aggregate data on the axes of each visualization. This means that any values in the data can be aggregated in different ways in different visualizations without the need to specify anything when the data is imported.

Aggregating Data

Aggregating data is a way to group the data using statistical measures. For example, you could select to show the Sum of all Sales for a year or the Average Sale for each month, or use both at the same time in different visualizations. This gives you further opportunities to configure the data in a data table when it is used in a visualization.

Available aggregations

The aggregations used in the visualizations can be made even more powerful if expressions are used. Expressions allow you to define your own aggregations and groupings of the data. More information on using expressions can be found in the section on configuring expressions.

For more information on how the data can be aggregated in visualizations, see the following topic in the TIBCO Spotfire User's Guide:
