Interacting with Visualizations

By interacting with the visualizations you can see different aspects of your data and see details on the interesting items.

Marking in Visualizations

Clicking on one or more items (for example, a bar segment, a pie sector, a line, or a marker) in a visualization marks them. The purpose of marking items may be to view details for the item, or to distinguish rows in order to manipulate them. The details for the marked items are shown in the Details-on-Demand, described later in this section.

Highlighting in Visualizations

When you move the mouse pointer over an item (for example, a bar segment, a pie sector, a line, or a marker) in a visualization, a tooltip appears displaying details about the highlighted item.

Details-on-Demand

The Details-on-Demand is by default placed in the lower right corner of the application. It displays the actual values of marked items in the active visualization.

Legend

The legend contains information about the visualization and allows you to apply settings to the visualization. When it is shown, it appears on the right-hand side of the visualization.

For more information on the legend, see the following topic in the TIBCO Spotfire User's Guide:

Column Selectors

The column selectors of a visualizations lets you set up how the visualization will look.

The selectors found on the axes of the visualization, axis selectors, are used to set up which columns of the data table to be shown on the axes of the visualization. Here you can also specify aggregations, custom expressions and additional settings.

Column selector on an axis

The selectors found in the legend of the visualization provide dimensions to your visualization beyond what axis selectors can do. For example, you can apply coloring and size to the items of the visualization using columns from your data table.

Controls in Text Areas

Property controls, action links or buttons can be added to the text areas in pages in the analysis. The controls are used to let the users control the content of visualizations in the analysis or to send the user to a certain page of the analysis or to a specific visualization with certain filter settings and markings applied.

The control in the text area defines the contents of the bar chart

For more information on controls in the text area, see the following topic in the TIBCO Spotfire User's Guide:
