Information Services provides end users with the ability to access and pivot data from multiple databases simultaneously without having to know anything about installing database drivers, underlying data schemas, or SQL.
Database administrators and IT professionals configure and control
end users’ access to data from multiple sources through a single,
managed Information Model. The complexity of data access is
hidden from the end users behind the more familiar, contextual
language of guided Information Links.
Information Model
The Information Model maps a variety of data sources into a meta-model
with column, filter, joins and prompt options that can be used
for ad hoc querying or to build reusable Information Links (queries).
The guided Information Links provide live queries that can prompt
end users to select what data to retrieve for analysis.
The server-based Information Services make data easily accessible
from any JDBC, ODBC, or OLE-DB accessible data source including
Microsoft® Excel® delimited text files, and a wide range of
databases such as Oracle®, IBM® DB2®, Microsoft SQL Server,
Microsoft Access™, MySQL®, SAS/SHARE®, PostgreSQL, Sybase® or
Informix®.
Modification and execution permissions can be administered at
any level of the Information Model. Information Services can
be configured to pass end-user credentials back to the source
database, ensuring that the existing data security model in
your database systems is not bypassed.

Information Links
Information Links are a powerful and flexible way to set up live
links to the data sources that people need in order to make
decisions. The end-users do not need to know where the data
resides, and cryptic and strange database names can easily be
mapped to business terms that the user can understand. It is
even possible to construct Information Links that will determine
what data to retrieve based on user selections. Information
Links enable you to freely distribute an analysis file and be
sure that everyone has access to the correct and latest available
data from your central Information Model.
