What’s New in the TIBCO Spotfire 3.2 Platform

TIBCO Spotfire 3.2 extends the platform capabilities for working with lists, exporting and printing, configuration and administration.

Access Data from Oracle Clinical

TIBCO Spotfire Clinical allows end users to connect to Oracle® Clinical (OC) databases and open data from one or more clinical studies in TIBCO Spotfire.

Easier Configuration of Multiple Data Tables

The configuration of multiple data tables has been improved, as the new data access user interface supports adding multiple data tables to the analysis and specifying transformations and relations among them in one dialog.

Keep Track of Items of Interest Using Lists

Lists represent captured knowledge from one or many data sources. They are similar to Tags, but lists are available from one session to the next and are not specific to a certain analysis file. It is possible to import lists previously exported from TIBCO Spotfire, TIBCO Spotfire DecisionSite, or TIBCO Spotfire Lead Discovery.

Export Visualizations and Pages to PDF

All pages and visualizations in an analysis can now be exported to PDF. This functionality is available in both TIBCO Spotfire  and TIBCO Spotfire Web Player. PDF creation can be automated using TIBCO Spotfire Automation Services and there is an API that can be used to build custom tools that initiate PDF Export.

Export All Table Rows and Trellis Panels

The Print, Export to PowerPoint, and Export to HTML dialogs in TIBCO Spotfire have been redesigned to get a unified look and functionality.  An option to include non-visible table rows and trellis panels in the export has been added to all export tools.

Show Subtotals in the Cross Table

It is possible to display subtotals in the columns of a cross table when the vertical axis is set up as a hierarchy. The aggregated subtotal value is calculated using the selected aggregation measure, and is displayed for each category and at each hierarchical level.

Improvements to the Configuration and Administration

The authentication options has been expanded to include NTLM v2 for single sign-on and the Spotfire Server 3.2 can import users and groups from LDAP directories that do not support the MemberOf attribute. There are also three new roles (default groups) for deployment, diagnostics and Web Player administration. Finally The TIBCO Spotfire Server and TIBCO Spotfire Web Player Installation and Configuration Manuals now describe how to back up and restore the Spotfire server and the Web Player server.

Keep Track of Spotfire Web Player Resource Usage

To keep track of the resource usage for a Spotfire Web Player Server, it is possible to enable logging of document cache, open files, user sessions, and performance counters. As a complement, the library log from the TIBCO Spotfire Server can give information about what is actually loaded from the library. All log files are formatted for easy import into TIBCO Spotfire Professional. This logging makes it much easier to find out how often and at what times the different analyses are used and how well the servers handle the work load.

Scheduled Web Player Upgrades

Web Player upgrades can now be scheduled, as a separate settings file and batch execution file takes care of everything required for an upgrade. This removes the need to manually run the web player upgrade tool when new packages have been deployed to the Spotfire Server.

New Tasks in the Automation Services Job Builder

The Automation Services Job Builder has two new tasks in TIBCO Spotfire 3.2. The Set Data Source Credentials task is used to specify credentials if the job contains tasks for opening an analysis or an information link requiring data source authentication. The Export to PDF task allows export of all pages and visualizations in an analysis to PDF.

Custom File Open and File Save Tools

Two new menu categories have been added for custom tools. MenuCategory.FileOpen and MenuCategory.FileSave. This allows you to create custom File Open and File Save Tools.

Data Function Improvements

If you are prompting for credentials and using automatic updates you can now override the GetPromptRequestsCore on the CustomDataFunctionExecutor to make sure that all credentials prompting has been performed during the load operation. This is useful for some specific cases when you want more control over when prompting is performed.
